The face of the Aralar mountain range that is oriented towards the Araitz Valley and Betelu is known as “las Malloas”. It is a cirque made up of a series of peaks, the highest of which is the 1,430-metre “Torre de Intza” or “Irumugarrieta”. The Malloas dominate the villages of the Araitz Valley and are reminiscent of the peaks of the upper Pyrenees.

Meaning
Las Malloas: "meadow, grassland". This is what the people who live in the area call the grass that grows amongst the crags.
