Euskera (the Basque language) is the native language of the Araitz, Basaburua, Imotz, Larraun, Leitzaran and Ultzama Valleys, and until a very few years ago it was the only language spoken by the majority of the people who lived there. The cornerstone of the the identity of these villages and valleys, it has been handed down from generation to generation to pass on stories, events and the way of life. Therefore, Euskera is the vehicle through which the history of the region has been recorded and saved. |
